STUFF!

August 31st, 2007

It looks like I'll be updating my livejournal page more often than the website, so if you haven't had a chance to check that out, well, what are you waiting for? Beyond that, there's a few bits of news. The echoes of Gen Con are still coming back - I just received the following picture from Eberron player Dom, and given that I'm all for being worshipped and adored, I felt that I should post it; I want it to be a giant statue outside the First Church of Eberron (sadly, we don't actually know if the god of the First Church of Eberron is real, or if the clerics are just drawing power from the Ring of Siberys...):

Left to Right top to bottom, Lex, Kyle, Keith, Adrian, David, Dom.

On the home front, I'm pushing ahead on my new Eberron novel; the first draft should be done within two weeks. Woo hoo! And with that in mind, it occured to me that it's high time for another installment of The Eberron Casting Call. We're almost done with the Dreaming Dark trilogy, but with The Gates of Night, we have a new character to consider: Xu'sasar of the Qaltiar. To quote the book:

She was unquestionably elven, with fine features, large almond-shaped eyes, and long, pointed ears. Like most of the other elves Daine had encountered, she was short and slender… athletic, but built for speed instead of strength. Where most elves had light complexions, this woman's skin was pitch black, a shade far darker than he'd ever seen on another human. This darkness was broken up by a web of pale white tattoos, abstract but almost hypnotic in their complexity. Her long hair was the color of moonlight, silvery-white and shimmering in the reflected flame. This cloak of hair covered more than her actual clothing. Vambraces made from some sort of opalescent shell covered her forearms, and she wore shin-guards made from the same material. Aside from this armor, she wore a short, dark loincloth and a few bands of leather wrapped across her torso.

Xu'sasar is swift and deadly, and operates under different concepts of morality and theology that Daine and Lei. She has grown up in a savage world, where survival comes before everything else. Who would you cast in the role of the drow huntress? Answer here!

August 22: Back from Gen Con!

Hey everyone! Ellen and I have returned from Gen Con, and we had a great time. I'd like to thank everyone who attended my seminars, especially the Saturday evening get-together, and I'd also like to thank C.A. Suleiman for running a game for me (unfortunately, it was Saturday night and I could barely keep my eyes open!). By now I'm sure that people have heard about the onset of D&D Fourth Edition, and you may be wondering what this means for Eberron and what I think about it. Because I'm too lazy to figure out how to edit this page myself, I've started using www.livejournal.com, and I suggest you check out my journal.

There were lots of things about Gen Con worth mentioning, but I need to get back to work on my novel, so I'll leave you with this terrifying scene of Bossy being attacked by a beholder.  It looks grim, but all I'll say is that the beholder should have known better than to swallow the Hellcow.

Sunday, August 12th

Gen Con Indy is approaching, and there's lots of news here at the Bakery. I'll begin at the end with Gen Con itself. I'm doing a number of seminars and talks this year. I'm also planning on finding a space to hang out from 6 PM - 8 PM Saturday evening - where anyone who wants to talk about Gloom, Eberron, or anything else can do so in a less structured environment. This is likely to be in a hotel lobby, restaurant, or open game space, and I need to scout out the area - so if you're interested, catch me at one of the other events. Here's my schedule of events:

Thursday 2 PM – 3 PM: Author's Alley

Friday 11 AM – 12 PM: Eberron Meet & Greet in the WotC Novels Area

Friday 12 PM – 1 PM: Reinventing your campaign

Friday 1 PM – 2 PM: Author's Alley

Friday 4 PM – 6 PM: Secrets of Eberron

Saturday 9 AM – 10 AM: Planes of Eberron seminar

Saturday 10 AM – 11 AM: The Dreaming Dark (novel discussion)

Saturday 3 PM – 4 PM: Villains of Eberron seminar

Saturday 4 PM – 5 PM: Eberron Meet & Greet in the WotC Novels Area

Saturday 6 PM: Open Chat (location TBD)

What next? Well, the biggest change is that I've left my job with NetDevil in order to focus on my writing and freelance work. NetDevil is a great company and they're working on some wonderful projects, but I was stretching myself too thin trying to do my novels, Eberron work, and a full-time job. We're still on good terms, and I hope to do some story work for them on a freelance basis in the future. Meanwhile, once I'm done with my current Eberron novel, this should also mean that I'll have more time to finally get Dragonshards and other Eberron support going again.

Finally, Ellen, Bossy, and I managed to take a vacation in lovely Cape May in July: click here to see pictures!
